Can It Go In A Skip?
Can It Go In A Skip?
When it comes to starting a clear-out, you might be feeling a bit perplexed as to what can and can’t go in your skip.
As a homeowner, you carry what’s known as a waste duty of care, ‘to ensure you only transfer household waste produced on your property to an authorised person.’ You can read more about the waste duty of care.
Waste that falls under the classification of hazardous waste cannot be disposed of in a skip, and as such, if you do attempt to dispose of hazardous waste in a skip, you will not be transferring your waste to an authorised person. It’s actually illegal to mix hazardous waste with non-hazardous waste, so it’s extremely important that you understand waste classifications, and what forms of waste are appropriate for disposal in a skip.
But fear not! We’ve put together a guide to common household waste, and whether or not it can be disposed of in a skip!
Batteries- No!
You should not dispose of batteries in a skip, they should instead be disposed of in battery banks.
Garden waste- Yes!
Garden waste such as rubble, wood, soil, turf and cuttings can be disposed of safely in a skip.
Domestic waste and recyclable materials- Yes!
